Hon’ble Justice Subhasan Reddy

Ex.Lokayukt for Andhra Pradesh & Telangana

Former Chief Justice Tamil Nadu & Kerala High Courts

Born on 2nd March, 1943 at Bagh Amberpet village of Hyderabad City to parents Sri B.Aga Reddy (now retired as Examiner of Accounts, Jagir Administration) and late Smt. B.Shakuntala Devi and had school education at Sultan Bazar High School and Chadharghat High School, Degree in Science from Osmania Science College, Degree in Law from Osmania Law College and got enrolled on 10.1.1966 as an Advocate and practiced extensively in Revenue Courts, Criminal Courts, Civil Courts, High Court and also Supreme Court, dealing in all branches of Law.

In recognition of his brilliant career as an Advocate, was elevated as a Judge of A.P. High Court on 25.11.1991, in which post, he had delivered thousands of judgments and several landmark judgments in several subjects of Law. He was actively associated with Legal Services Authority of State of Andhra Pradesh, firstly, as Chairman of High Court Legal Services Committee, and then, as Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority and was also the President of A.P. Judicial Academy, which trains the Judicial Officers.

Was elevated as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court on 12.9.2001, where he had brought several reforms in Law and to take the Justice to doorsteps of litigants in South Tamil Nadu, had set up a High Court Bench at Madurai. In Tamil Nadu too, he had set up Legal Aid and Legal Literacy Centers in all the districts of Tamil Nadu and also got constructed the buildings for Tamil Nadu Judicial Academy and Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority. He was transferred to Kerala High Court on 21.11.2004 and retired on 2.3.2005.

On his return to Hyderabad after retirement, he was appointed as the first Chairperson of A.P. State Human Rights Commission and after discharging functions as such, retired after completion of five-year term on 11.8.2010. He was the first to give a new dimension to the definition of ‘human rights’ by extending the jurisdiction to all aspects of life from birth to death and covering so many issues regarding infant mortality, maternal mortality, health and nutrition, education, child marriages, child labour etc.

In order to utilize his varied service oriented experience for the benefit of the people of Andhra Pradesh, he has been appointed as Lokayukta of Andhra Pradesh by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and as such, he assumed charge of the said Office on 12th October, 2012 and has been taking steps to make the Institution of Lokayukta more effective in redressal of the complaints.

Even the period as Lokayukta of Andhra Pradesh is remarkable and progressive for the State of Andhra Pradesh as most of the complainants’ grievances are redressed in a very short span rectifying the administrative irregularities ever since the assumption of Office as Lokayukta. Thousands of complainants secured their dues, be it, service pension or various types of benefits due to them under the various beneficial schemes framed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, which were delayed or not granted due to the indifferent attitude or administrative malpractices adopted by the authorities. The Institution of Lokayukta under the stewardship of Hon’ble Sri Justice B.Subhashan Reddy has also been taking meticulous care in protecting the government properties, endowment properties, environment and natural resources like lakes, water bodies, nalas etc. by directing rectification of administrative misdeeds. The result is obvious that the institutions have increased multifold compared to previous years, which is a proof positive of confidence in the Institution.
